I've spent 2.5 years turning Pudgys biggest weaknesses into our greatest strength. The lessons we applied will change how you think about community building forever: Two and a half years ago, when I joined Pudgy Penguins, I had one goal, which was to find our weakest point and turn it into our strongest. One of those weak points was Lil Pudgys. Nobody bought them for on-chain rep; they bought them to hide in wallets and hope for appreciation. So, here's what we did: I. Identify and Attack Your Weakest Point We made it cool to rock a Lil Pudgy as a PFP. Started small, found the few who switched the PFP, and created exclusive chats from there. Lil Pudgys went from hidden assets to the most visible secondary collection in crypto. Builders, Leaders, Creators, all proudly rocking Lil Pudgys, making careers in Web3. Your ecosystem is only as strong as your weakest link; fix that first. II. Champion Your Winners Hard An ecosystem doesn't grow from marketing budgets, but it grows from a small core of believers you support religiously. Those early believers who took a chance on you, you should champion them harder than anyone else. Bullpost them, Rally behind them, live and die by them. When shit hits the fan, and it will, these are the only people who matter. Their winning stories inspire the next generation, and the next, and the next. III. Create Belonging from Day One The moment someone buys into your ecosystem, they've put money where their mouth is. What happens in those first 24 hours determines if they become a tourist or someone who stays for a long time. Get them in the right chats, connect them with the right people, and show them their place in something bigger. A great community has sub-communities where everyone finds their tribe. IV. Let Your Community Step Up Building in public is transparency and also giving your community actual ownership of the journey. From day one at Pudgy Penguins, community voices shaped everything. The Inner Igloo's didn't just give feedback, but they helped build the roadmap. Your community members are builders too; let them build. The bottom line is you don't build communities, you grow them. Start with your weakest point > find your core believers >create real belonging > and build together. This is how you turn 1,000 followers into 1,000 evangelists who each bring 1,000 more. Give a f*ck about the people who gave a f*ck about you first.
